NC General Lies

On July 15, I finally received an email from the North Carolina General Assembly House Majority Oversight Staff Director, Joe Coletti, and legislative attorney Wes Jones claiming they wanted to hear more about my story.

On July 17, I received a call from Mr. Coletti without notice. In truth, it was not a call to support or investigate—it was a call to deflect and discourage. I will say Mr. Coletti was professional and kind during our conversation, but he quickly pivoted to say there was nothing the Oversight Committee could do. He then turned the conversation over to Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones, like so many others before him, responded by talking down to me. He claimed clerks were allowed to issue orders—including dismissals—and that judicial names didn’t have to be released. When I pointed out that these orders say they’re issued by a three-judge panel and that a clerk signing on their behalf is outright fraud, he didn’t deny it. In fact, he admitted attorneys and legislators are well aware of this practice. Then, instead of addressing the law, he tried to gaslight me by saying it was just “internal policy.” When I challenged that too, he implied I didn’t understand the law because I’m not an attorney.

Mr. Coletti stepped in to deescalate the conversation by apologizing and stating they would research the law and get back to me. I did the job for them instead.

I sent an email later that day to document the call, outlining the relevant constitutional and statutory violations and demanding an investigation. I made it clear I’m not asking for interference in my case—I’m demanding transparency. I want the $340 that was unlawfully taken from me returned. I want the names of the judges who supposedly issued these orders. And now that they’ve admitted Clerk Eugene Soar likely signed them, I want the legislature to subpoena him. If they refuse to act, they’re not just negligent—they’re complicit in the systemic fraud that’s happening right now at the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
